Chapter Twenty Eight: Merry Christmas To You.

Eliza, in her traditional Christmas jumper, supervised the trimming of the tree.
"I'm putting the star on this year" Addison declared, her posture daring her sister to argue.
"Sure thing sis." Ainsley agreed, maturity bringing her the wisdom not to rise to her siblings bait.

"Deck the halls with boughs of holly."  Ainsley sang.

"Mum.  I think it's done.  Can we put the garland on yet?"
"Nope.  That one just needs to go over there."

Nathaniel came by for Christmas brunch.  Eliza even changed out of her jumper so as not to embarrass Ainsley at this first meeting with the new boyfriend.  Addison had shed her snow gear, which she had been wearing when Ainsley first arrived.

Nathaniel picked up his fork.
"Psst.  Grace first." Ainsley hissed across the table.

The Pancakes weren't even too bad at this first meal.  Although Ainsley could have kicked Addison when she asked Nathaniel if he had accidentally killed anyone while on the job.

When Nathaniel left, the Pancakes changed into warmer clothes again and headed outside to play in the snow.  Eliza came over by Ainsley and made chicken motions and noises in the direction of the other two.  It looked like a fair fight; until Addison turned the tables and lobbed a snowball at Bob -who was supposed to be her partner.

At which point it became a free for all.

When they were all puffed, Eliza and Bob called a truce and forced the girls to comply too.  Then the older Pancakes set about building their own version of "Frosty" while Eliza and Ainsley harmonised.

Unfortunately the snow was a bit soft and not too deep that day.  Their Frosty the Snowman ended up rather lopsided.

Then it was inside for more carols and presents.  Ainsley was very satisfied with the new frying pan and diamond earrings her parents got her.  Poor Bob ended up with socks and underwear.
